Safety for Sellers
- If a buyer is paying by cheque, the funds must clear before you dispatch your item. We advise that you do not accept cheques for services.
- Treat strangers with suspicion - do not invite them to your home and arrange to meet at a half-way public space, and not a car-park.
- Do not give buyers your personal details until you are sure that they are who they say they are and a genuine buyer.
- Buyers offering to pay for an item and asks you to pay for shipping are likely to be a scammer.
- If a buyer offers a vastly reduced buying price or offers to pay more than you are asking for - be aware that they may be trying to con you.
Listing an item
- Take one or more pictures of your item in a well lit room. Effective pictures make a massive difference to the success of your item
- Do not post illegal items, abusive content or items that are not yours to sell. For more information on what you can and cannot post, please read our advertising rules.
- Create a clear and concise title. Titles that are too long, contain bad grammar, excessive capitalisation or pushy sales language will usually suffer. Keep it subtle and friendly.
- Do not include email addresses, telephone numbers or web addresses in the text, title or images of the advert. There are dedicated fields for all of these.
Listing a service or a community request
- If you advertising for or on behalf of a company feel free to post an image of your logo, include contact details, address, website and about us details in your profile.
General Tips
- Check your spelling - buyers will be put off by poor grammar and poor spelling mistakes.
- Choose the best category. There are often two categories that might be the best. If you are selling an item, make sure it is within "buy and sell". There are B2B or B2C service categories within "services".
As a rule, we try to be fair and even handed, but ads placed without due care and attention, with abusive content or duplicate ads can and will be removed.
